Onboarding Steps27
A beginner app for learning crochet and knitting through video lessons. Released in December 2024, with 34K ratings. It also has AI features that identify stitches from a photo and turn a pet photo into a crochet keepsake.
UX Highlights
Onboarding is about 25 screens. The first 10 or so are an illustrated story that shows research on knitting lowering heart rate and the craft's long history, selling the value of the hobby before any questions. The skill check shows real crochet charts and asks whether the user can read them, and tutorials switch to match the user's dominant hand. Knitting trivia plays during the analysis loading.
Monetization
Two options, a yearly plan with a 7-day free trial and a monthly plan, with the trial selected by default. It also has a "remind me before the trial ends" toggle. It's a soft paywall: users can enter the app without purchasing. Inside the app, it shows a paywall again, pairing a yearly plan with a 7-day free trial and a weekly plan with a 3-day free trial.
